Module 38- Foreign Animal Disease Detection in Category 1 Animals

The purpose of this module is to explore the complex relationship between the accredited veterinarian, Category I animals, and foreign animal diseases (FADs). The module focuses on the vital role you, an accredited veterinarian, play in recognizing potential situations involving the introduction and transmission of foreign animal diseases by Category I animals. Several foreign animal diseases that can be carried by Category I animals are reviewed. Valuable resources you can use to keep current on foreign animal diseases occurring worldwide are shared. This module is also intended to refamiliarize accredited veterinarians with regulations pertaining to their roles and responsibilities as accredited veterinarians, as well as various animal health regulatory concepts and activities. Information in the module does not supersede the regulations. For the most up-to-date regulations and standards, please refer to the Code of Federal Regulations or contact your local USDA APHIS Veterinary Services Area Office.
