Available for RACE approved CE credit if watched from 8:00AM-8:50AM PST on Friday, October 8, 2021.
Tooth extraction is the most common oral surgery procedure performed by veterinarians. Using appropriate extraction techniques results in more effective extractions. Proper technique leads to better patient comfort, fewer complications, and less doctor frustration. Using proper extraction technique will also speed up the extraction procedure, resulting in less anesthesia time for the patient and more effective use of the doctor’s time. General extraction principles, including flap preparation, tooth sectioning, root elevation, and flap closure techniques will be discussed. Tips for extraction of canine teeth and carnassial teeth in dogs and cats will be discussed. Extraction complications, including how to avoid them, will be included in the discussion.
