The vestibular system is a special proprioceptive system that regulates balance, position of the head and body relative to the ground and movements of the eyes. It is comprised of the peripheral vestibular system (inner ear, vestibulocochlear nerve) and central vestibular system (brainstem). Clinical signs and common causes of both peripheral and central vestibular disease will be reviewed.
